Facts instead of assumptions: Make data-based decisions about concrete quality

Concrete needs 28 days to develop its compressive strength. Screed needs about the same amount of time to dry before it can be covered with a floor material. But: These are all guideline values that do not necessarily apply to different conditions. In reality, the concrete may already have reached maturity – or the screed may already be completely dry. With IoT sensors, you make yourself independent of these guideline values and instead make your own, data-based decisions. 

The quality of concrete and screed is relevant to safety. It is not for nothing that excess moisture is the most common cause of floor damage in construction. It causes costs in the billions every year.

The pitfall here:

Water is an essential ingredient in the production of concrete. During the critical curing phase, it must be kept moist until the desired compressive strength is achieved. The decisive factor here is the temperature development in the concrete.

However, for concrete and cement screeds to be floored, the substrate must be sufficiently “dry” to ensure a good bond with the adhesives and prevent damage to the flooring. As long as residual moisture is present, neither parquet nor tiles can be applied.

Data-based decisions shorten the waiting time

Now, of course, you can sit out the mandatory waiting period and then send your concrete for the traditional break tests or subject your screed to a grid-crack test. Ideally, you have other projects to work on in the meantime. But wouldn’t it be much better to shorten the waiting time and simply continue working the moment the building material is really ready?
